Year 5 at the Painted Ceiling Tour - 6.3.18

On Tuesday 6th March, Y5 went on a trip to the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. The college is currently restoring the 300 year old painted ceiling in their dining hall. Y5 had the privilege of climbing up to the ceiling, 69 steps in total, wearing hard hats and florescent jackets, to see the paintings close up and learn about some of the stories contained in the images. After this the children took part in a game of skittles, playing on the original bowling alley set up for all the retired sailors in the 18th century - the bowling balls were actual cannon balls! I am pleased to report that the girls won!

After lunch, Y5 took part in a story-telling workshop, where they had the chance to act out the story of Medusa and then they created their own impossible creatures with all sorts of craft materials.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the College for organising such a fun, varied and informative programme of events for Year 5 to enjoy.
