KS2 French Competition

During the second half of the Summer term, the children of Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in a French Art Competition organised by Madame Pavey. The theme was “Paris” and the objective was to entice people to visit the capital of France. The posters showcased famous Parisian landmarks, French people, food and interesting and amusing French facts. Mrs Webb, who judged the competition, was very impressed by the quality and originality of the artwork submitted and selected seven winners. Well done to all who took part and extremely well done to the winners: Stacey, Asya, Hannah, Eva, Isabel, Shreeya and Katie. The prize was a copy of the lovely book “A walk in Paris” by Salvatore Rubbino.

Visit to the Apple store by Year 5

Year 5 visited the Apple store in Bromley on an educational field trip on Thursday 15th June 2017. During the visit we looked at how robots can be programmed using an iPad, the robots we used are called Sphero's and as you can see the children had a lot of fun exploring what they could do. After a short period of exploration, we then moved on to a set of obstacle courses, where the children had to program their Robots to traverse the course in a single try. After much testing and retesting all obstacle courses were conquered.

Sports Afternoon 2017

On Wednesday 21st June the sun was shining in the sky, ready for the children to take part in our annual Sports Afternoon. It was a particularly hot day but the children, staff and parents all persevered the rising temperatures! Children from Nursery up to Year 6 were all fantastic in their many races, including Running races, Hurdles, Throwing relays and Javelin. A personal favourite would have to be the obstacle races, where I have never seen so much determination whilst running in a tunnel and scrambling for tennis balls under the tarpaulin! It was a shame the planned marathons could not go ahead, however I could tell from all the childrens faces what a wonderful time they had had competing in the afternoon. I would like to say a very big well done to all the pupils for displaying excellent sportsmanship and teamwork. Many thanks must go to Mr McCabe for organising the event and running around picking up lost hats, shoes and hurdles! Thank you to all the staff who, without them, the event could not have gone ahead. I would also like to say a very big thank you to Mr Kang and his team for kindly supplying and running the drinks tent for the children, we all appreciated this on such a hot day!

14.6.17 French Assembly

On Wednesday 14th July the whole school took part in a French Assembly, where each class could show the rest of the school what they have been learning about in French lessons. Each class stood up on stage and performed a song or a dialogue based on topics being learnt in class. The songs ranged from learning about animals, the days of the week, musical instruments and activities at playtime. Chrisula and Gabriela then showed us a small conversation between a customer and an ice cream seller. The children have all worked very hard on their songs these past few weeks and enjoyed performing in assembly!

KS1&2 Craft Clubs visit Colomo Court Nursing Home

On Friday 16th June, a group of West Lodge children visited the Colomo Court Nursing Home.  The children were members of either KS1 or KS2 Craft Club and went to work with some of the residents on a joint art project.  In small groups, the children created stunning canvases of brightly coloured flowers using cupcake cases, buttons, ribbons and glitter!  The children were wonderful with the  residents, and the morning was a great success.  The visit was to coincide with National Care Home Day, and it was a very special experience for both children and residents.  Thanks go to Mr Hankin for driving the minibus and Mrs Dubbey, who coordinated the visit.  The biggest thanks, however, go to the children for their impeccable behaviour and fantastic creativity.
