School Council Trip to the Houses of Parliament

On the 22nd January, the School Council went to the Houses of Parliament to learn about the role of 'people power' in the evolution of Parliament. A guide took us around and showed us the Houses of Commons and the Houses of Lords. For the Houses of Commons, the colour was green and the for the Houses of Lords, the colour was red. Afterwards, we met a Member of Parliament, Bim Afolami, who talked to us about his job and answered our questions. We finished with a workshop that was all about how democracy works and we also watched a video about the suffragettes. It was a fun day and we learnt a lot. (Written by Isabelle and Oliver - Year 4)

Wedding of the Year: the Reception Wedding!

Last Friday was the wedding of the year: the Reception wedding! The children worked really hard over two weeks to plan the wedding, using lots of maths, writing and art skills. The day was lovely and as I'm sure you'll agree, the children looked fantastic. Please do keep a look out for our wedding-themed British Values display coming soon plus don't forget to log into the Parent Gallery for more photos.

Thursday 16th November - Family Board Game Evening

On Thursday 16th November West Lodge organised our first Family Board Games Evening. Mr Peebles and Miss Ayling run Board Games club every week, and were very excited to invite the Juniors to an evening of board game fun!

We had a variety of different games available, some of which have been very kindly donated to the club or purchased for the club by the PA. Some children also brought their own board games with them, ranging from Cluedo to the Magic Tooth Fairy! The children, however, were particularly excited to play Mr Peebles Beasts of Balance board game, which cleverly uses the iPad.

It was a fantastic atmosphere and the two hours seemed to fly by! During the evening, we saw some Pirate themed games being played, Beat the parents, in which the parents play against the children, and the intense One Night Ultimate Werewolf. Mr Francis also enjoyed playing Hive against some of the children!

It was a very successful (and competitive) evening and we are glad everyone had a fantastic time. Thank you very much to Mr Peebles for organising the event, and we look forward to hosting more in the future!

Monday 20th November - Year 4 Trip to the National Maritime Museum

On Monday 20th November Year 4 went to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. We travelled there by train and the DLR. It was a very quick journey!

When we arrived we went to the Children's gallery. In the gallery we could send messages via morse code, using lights or sound, and we could practise loading a ship! After a quick picture on the great map (which took up an entire floor!) we were then ready for our workshop.

Our workshop was called "Meet the Vikings". Our workshop leader, Helen, told us all about Viking ships, including the head at the front of the ship and why oars were needed. We then got into groups and explored some typical Viking artefacts. We then had to pretend we were trading these with Helen, in Iraq, for different  luxuries. Some of us were particularly good at bargaining!

After the workshop we had our lunch, and after lunch we explored Nelson's Ship in a Bottle. Sadly it was then time to go!

We had a brilliant day out, and were very well behaved throughout the entire trip!

KS1 Nativity - Straw and Order

Year 1 and 2 did three amazing performances of their Christmas production last week. Whoever knew that the Nativity story could involve a judge, two quiz masters and TV obsessed sheep? The children worked really hard to learn their lines and deliver them with comedy value and their singing was fantastic too! We are all definitely in the Christmas spirit now!
