STEAM DAY 7.6.19

On Friday 7th June , West Lodge held its first ever STEAM Day!  STEAM is an acronym for Science,  Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths and it was a chance for the children to take part in a range of engaging activities. In EYFS and KS1, the children were learning about how hot air balloons work, made slime to test pushes and pulls, made spinning tops to look at friction and made butterflies from coffee filter paper to learn about chromatography! In KS2, there were a range of exciting challenges the children were set: making catapults to test stored energy, making a chair out of newspaper, bridges and towers using lolly sticks and finally the Egg Drop Challenge. We were also able to see how a steam engine works with the loan of a toy engine and the children even had a chance to make a tower out of marshmallows! All in all it was a fun-filled day and West Lodge definitely has some budding scientists and engineers in its midst!
