A very big well done and thank you to all of our Willy Wonkas, Matildas, Fantastic Mr Foxes and Golden Ticket Winners, who were just some of the many characters to fill West Lodge as part of Dahlicious Day on Thursday 13th September. The children had a splendiferous day dressed as many of the characters from Roald Dahl’s books whilst raising money for his charity (Roald Dahl Marvellous-Children’s Charity), for sick children. Inspired by the characters and adventures from ‘James and the Giant Peach’, children from every class produced a range of whizz popping art work and in KS2 scrumdidlyyumptious creative writing. Even Sue the cook used ‘James and the Giant Peach’ to create a dahlicious lunch of Cheese Flan with Ladybugs, and Centipedes followed by Peach Sponge.

Darwin Rocks - Year 5 and 6 Play

For the last two nights, Year 5 and 6 have performed Darwin Rocks to members of their family. And what wonderful performances they were! The children sang the songs beautifully and said their many lines with confidence. It really was a very enjoyable show. Every child in Year 5 and 6 gave it everything to put together a collaborative show and all of them should be very proud. The Year 6 children finished the last song with their favourite memories of West Lodge and what they would miss, which meant many of the audience were in tears by the end. A special mention to the children who had to play extra roles at the last minute due to absence. Thank you also to the parents who provided may of the costumes and to the staff who helped put the show together. Darwin most definitely rocked this week!

Mini Swimming Gala - Year 2 - 5.7.18

On Thursday 5th July, Year 2 took part in a mini swimming gala to show their parents their swimming skills and water confidence. Some children showed their stroke and breathing technique in a length of front crawl and the others demonstrated their skills in front crawl and backstroke in some width swimming. There were then some fun relays where the children raced in their houses across the pool using noodles, balls and floats. The staff at the leisure centre were very impressed with the children’s swimming progress, particularly those who started the summer term as complete non swimmers.  The afternoon was great fun and it was a lovely round off to the children’s first swimming course with West Lodge.

Year 2 trip to Broadstairs

On Friday 6th July, year 2 headed to Broadstairs for the day. The children have been learning about seaside holidays since Victorian Times as well as the geographical features of seaside localities and persuaded Mr Francis to allow them to take a trip to see what they’d been learning about. They looked for old and new features and gave some very well thought out reasons for their choices. They also looked for human and physical features and discussed which of these they might also see in Sidcup. After lunch, the children played on the beach and paddled in the sea before cooling off with an ice lolly and returning back to school. We had a fantastic day - thank you very much to our parent helpers for helping to make it run so smoothly.

Today we held our annual EYFS/year six picnic. The year six pupils arranged a selection of games for the EYFS children to take part in. The games were well organised and year six were very good with the younger children. We then enjoyed a picnic lunch in the school garden with our teddy bears before a fantastic water fight in the afternoon! All of the children were very well behaved and had a very enjoyable day.
