A focus on friendship
Alongside excellent academic provision, the staff at West Lodge are fully committed to the school’s desire to be a friendly and welcoming community where everybody is happy and feels valued. Friendship is central to this desire and this has been a focus this term following on from the start of term assembly about the friendship of rugby legends, fundraising heroes and best friends Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield.
Rob and Kevin were recently awarded CBEs for their inspirational fundraising but are also simply “best mates” and this is celebrated in their wonderful book “With You Every Step” that reminds us all that connections with people are the most valuable and important things in life.
Following its introduction in assembly many of the classes have focussed upon this theme of friendship this term and have been helped to appreciate that as Rob and Kevin state in their book “Having someone you trust completely is a gift.” Interesting and quite deep discussions about friendship have followed and the children have produced some thought-provoking work upon the theme through poetry and recipes for friendship.
